New Delhi, Sept 15: Jitendra Tiwari, state leader for the BJP, has been called in for questioning by the West Bengal CID officers in relation to a case of coal smuggling. He must appear before CID officers in the city on Friday at 11 a.m. for questioning.

The Bengal police’s Bhawani Bhawan’s CID office has summoned the BJP official for an appearance. Prior to the 2021 West Bengal Assembly election, Tiwari, the former Trinamool Congress mayor of Asansol, switched parties and joined the BJP. He acknowledged getting the notice required by 160 CrPc.

Based on a written complaint, a case was opened in this respect at the Andal police station in 2020, and the CID detectives then launched an inquiry.

“An investigating authority can call anyone for the sake of investigation,” Jitendra Tiwari said.

The CBI and the Enforcement Directorate are also investigating alleged illegal excavation, transportation and sale of coal from some districts of West Bengal.
