Ranchi, May 24: The Central Institute of Psychiatry (CIP) on Tuesday organised a Schizophrenia awareness programme commemorating the World Schizophrenia Day at the OPD complex.
The programme was attended by the faculty from Departments of Psychiatry, clinical psychology and Psychiatric social work. The Director of the institute, Prof (Dr) Basudeb Das addressed the audience and informed them about the disease.
He furthermore, briefly covered the symptoms, role of genetics, family and environment, and the corresponding levels of care required in Schizophrenia.
Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychology, Dr Priyanka Lenka delivered a talk on Schizophrenia, its causes, symptoms, diagnostic criteria, world and Indian scenario, along with providing details about care required and pharmacological and psychosocial treatment available for it.
A question answer session was followed after this, where Associate Professor, department of Psychiatry, Dr Sunilkumar Suryavanshi answered queries of the audience regarding the illness, including whether the illness is curable, duration of treatment required, side effects of drugs used in treatment etc.
