Ranchi: Chief Minister Hemant Soren, during his London visit, toured the Royal School of Mines at Imperial College London, reviewing advanced laboratories and engaging with faculty and researchers working on critical minerals, advanced materials, and nuclear research.

The Chief Minister interacted with leading academics who briefed him on ongoing work in mineral processing, materials science, nuclear engineering, and advanced sensing technologies. Researchers highlighted how integrated approaches across geoscience, materials engineering, computational modeling, and policy studies are being applied to address challenges in mining, clean energy, and industrial decarbonization.
Focus on Technology, Value Addition, and Collaboration
Demonstrations showcased modern techniques for mineral identification, processing optimization, modeling, and imaging, emphasizing pathways to translate early-stage research into industrial applications. Discussions underscored how such technologies could help resource-rich states like Jharkhand move beyond extraction toward value addition. The visit reaffirmed Jharkhand’s intent to pursue long-term academic and research partnerships, including exploring a Centre of Excellence in critical minerals and mining sciences in collaboration with Imperial College London.
