New Delhi, July 28: In a case involving irregularities in the allocation of a coal block in Chhattisgarh, the Delhi High Court on Friday granted interim bail to businessman Manoj Kumar Jayaswal, former Rajya Sabha MP Vijay Darda and his son Devender. All three men had been given four-year prison sentences.
On appeals filed by the three individuals contesting their conviction and imprisonment in the case, Justice Dinesh Kumar Sharma served notice and requested the Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) response.
The High Court further requested the CBI to submit a response to the convicts’ requests for the suspension of their four-year sentence.
The Dardas and Jayaswal, who had been out on bail during the trial, were arrested on July 26 as soon as the trial court issued the sentence.
The counsel representing the CBI objected to the request for sentence suspension and stated they would submit a thorough response.
The matter will be heard again by the High Court on September 26.
