New Delhi, June 12: The Indian Premier League’s media rights e-auction for the 2023-2027 cycle began on Sunday, with sources claiming that the combined bid for TV and digital rights has surpassed Rs 42,000 crore.

There are four different packages in which an e-auction will be held for 74 games every season over a five-year period from 2023 to 2027, with the possibility of expanding the number of games to 94 in the final two years. The procedure has been broken down into four distinct packages (A, B, C and D). Package A is just for TV in the Indian subcontinent, whilst Package B is only for digital in the same region.

According to the sources, the per-match fee for TV and digital has surpassed Rs 100 crore.

Package C is for a limited number of games per season, whereas Package D is for all games (TV and digital rights) for international markets.

Notably, on Friday Amazon had backed out of the Indian Premier League media rights auction.

With a bid of Rs 16,347.50 crore in September 2017, Star India beat out Sony Pictures to secure the Indian Premier League’s media rights for the 2017-2022 season. The cost of an IPL match had risen to roughly Rs 55 crore as a result of this agreement.

With a bid of Rs 8200 crore in 2008, Sony Pictures Network secured the IPL media rights for a ten-year period. In 2015, Novi Digital was given the global digital rights to the IPL for a three-year term for 302.2 crore.

This year, the tournament was enlarged from eight to ten teams, with the Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants joining in 2022. Last month, the Gujarat Titans won the event for the first time.
