Sukna (West Bengal): Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday praised the Indian Army’s preparedness to handle any situation in the Ladakh region, where the forces remain in a prolonged standoff with the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA). Despite the challenging conditions, Singh remains hopeful about ongoing negotiations leading to a peaceful resolution.

Speaking at the Army Commanders’ Conference from Sukna military station, Singh said, “We are cautiously optimistic about resolving the border row with China.” He also emphasized the importance of learning from global conflicts, urging the Indian armed forces to modernise and remain alert to face unconventional and hybrid warfare threats.

His comments come amid the ongoing military standoff in eastern Ladakh, now in its fifth year. Singh stressed that India is relying on diplomatic channels to restore the situation to its pre-April 2020 status.

Addressing the army commanders virtually due to bad weather that prevented his visit to Gangtok, Singh reiterated the need for continuous war preparedness. He also praised the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) for enhancing forward infrastructure, boosting military mobility and logistics in strategic regions.

Singh is set to inaugurate 75 infrastructure projects worth ₹2,236 crore on Saturday, including roads and bridges to strengthen military movement in Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and other border areas.
