New Delhi: The BJP has targeted Rahul Gandhi over his foreign trip, even as he keeps demanding the resignation of CEC Gyanesh Kumar, while the Congress and some allies have defended his right to travel.
BJP Mocks Rahul With Video and Meme
The BJP posted a video on its X handle showing a man resembling Rahul Gandhi in the business-class cabin of an aircraft, which had been shared on social media by a fellow passenger and went viral. The party captioned it with a mock line saying he was tired of spreading lies and would go to Vietnam for a few days, as no one would know. BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari also posted a meme on X, saying that a person who spends more time having fun than working then shouts that votes were stolen. The meme read “Rahul Gandhi on holiday again.”
Congress Says Every Person Is Entitled to a Private Break
Congress and some of its allies disliked the ridicule, saying every individual has the right to take a private holiday. Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit told ANI that others also travel abroad, and that Rahul Gandhi is an individual and the Leader of Opposition with his own responsibilities. He noted that Rahul sometimes interacts with students at Yale University, sometimes meets students and intellectuals in London, and also holds press conferences, which Prime Minister Narendra Modi does not.
Dikshit Cites Tradition on PM’s Foreign Trips
Dikshit asked what the BJP’s problem with Gandhi’s trip is. He said it has been a tradition that the Prime Minister does not travel abroad while Parliament is in session, but that the current Prime Minister broke this tradition, and asked why no questions were raised then.
CPI(M) Chief Calls Questions “Absurd”
CPI(M) general secretary M.A. Baby defended the trip, saying one could just as well argue that the CPI(M) general secretary should always stay in Delhi and not go to Kerala. He said such questions can be raised but are all absurd.
