New Delhi, Feb 23: Congressman Pawan Khera was denied permission to depart from Delhi for the capital of Chhattisgarh, Raipur on Thursday. As a result, numerous party leaders staged a rare protest on the tarmac adjacent to the plane.

Despite having a boarding permit, prominent Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera claims to have been de-boarded from the IndiGo flight  after party leaders entered the cabin. For a significant party gathering, the Congress leaders were travelling by plane to Raipur.

“I was told that there is an issue with my baggage, though I only had hand baggage. They told me you can’t fly. Then they said the DCP (Deputy Commissioner of Police) will meet you. I have been waiting for a long time. There is no sign of law and order,” Pawan Khera said.

On the tarmac of the Delhi airport, dozens of Congress leaders disembarked and staged a sit-in protest while yelling slogans.

Pawan Khera, according to the party, was detained without a warrant for his arrest. According to reports, an Assam Police squad went to the airport to apprehend the leader. Supriya Srinate of the Congress remarked, “This is nothing but a rattled government and its high-handedness.”

An IndiGo Airlines representative claimed that due to a case against Pawan Khera, it had been ordered that he not be allowed on the trip.

Senior Congress leader, KC Venugopal, reacting to the incident said, “Modi government is acting like a bunch of goons by deplaning Pawan Khera from the Delhi-Raipur flight and preventing him from joining the AICC Plenary. Using a flimsy FIR to restrict his movement and silence him is a shameful, unacceptable act. The entire party stands with Pawan ji.”
