New Delhi, Oct 17: The much-anticipated Congress presidential election began today. Party leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Shashi Tharoor will be in a close contest for the top party position during the election.
Today, more than 9,000 members of the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) will choose the party’s first non-Gandhi leader in more than 24 years. In the 137-year existence of the party, this is the sixth presidential election for the Congress. P Chidambaram casting the first vote at the AICC headquarters in Delhi.

Today at 11 a.m., Congress President Sonia Gandhi will vote. Chhattisgarh polling has also started, and PCC chairman Mohan Markam has already cast a ballot.
