Shimla, Nov.2: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been defeated in Himachal Pradesh, where the Congress has won all three assembly seats in bypolls held on October 30. Pratibha Singh, the wife of late chief minister Virbhadra Singh, was leading her BJP opponent in the Lok Sabha constituency of Mandi in Himachal Pradesh by a comfortable majority.
On the other hand, Mamata Banerjee, the West Bengal Chief Minister and the leader of the Trinamool Congress, declared victory in all four by-elections held on Tuesday. She sent out a tweet congratulating all of the winners. “Bengal will always prefer development and togetherness to misinformation and hate politics,” she remarked.
Abhay Chautala of the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) defeated BJP candidate Gobind Kanda by almost 6,000 votes on the Ellenabad seat in Haryana.
In Assam, the BJP gained the assembly seats of Bhabanipur, Mariani, and Thowra. The ruling Congress has won the assembly constituency of Dhariawad and is leading in Vallabhnagar, according to the latest reports. The ruling NPP and its ally, the UDP, have won all three assembly seats in Meghalaya.
