New Delhi, Nov 26: Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a celebration for Constitution Day today, said that our constitution is “open, futuristic, and known for its progressive views.” The phrase “We the people” is more than just three words; it captures the very essence of our Constitution, which makes us the mother of all democracies in the world.

“This Azaadi ka Amritkaal is a time to take a pledge to work to take the nation forward at a greater pace and with the intent to make it a world leader. In a week from now, India will assume the presidency of the G20,” he added.

The Chief Justice of India, DY Chandrachud, also attended the ceremony. PM Modi stated that the judiciary is working to ensure prompt justice. “Pro-poor policies are helping empower India’s poor, women. Laws are being simplified for the common man,” he said.

PM Modi also paid tribute to those who died in the terrorist attack in Mumbai on November 26, 2008.

“In 2008, the nation was celebrating Constitution Day when a terrorist attack was perpetrated by the nation’s adversaries of democracy. I pay respect to everybody who lost their lives that day,” he said.

At the event, PM Modi unveiled several new initiatives related to the e-court project. By enabling courts with ICT, the Project aims to offer services to litigants, attorneys, and the judiciary. The projects include Virtual Justice Clock, JustIS mobile App 2.0, Digital court, and S3WaaS Websites.

Since 2015, November 26 has been recognised as Constitution Day to honour the Constituent Assembly’s adoption of the Indian Constitution in 1949. The day had previously been designated as Law Day.
