Ranchi, May 6: Convicted gangster Anil Sharma serving a life term at Jai Prakash Central Jail in Hazaribagh was today admitted to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) after a cardiac problem.
The development took place after doctors of Hazaribagh Medical College and Hospital, where he was admitted following chest pain on Wednesday morning, referred him to the institute for better treatment.
At RIMS, he was first examined at the cardiology department OPD and then admitted for treatment. At RIMS, proper security arrangements have been made as he had a history of escaping from RIMS.
“On May 23, 2008 Sharma, had escaped from the judicial custody when he was brought for treatment. Five policemen deputed for his security were suspended in this connection,” a police official said.
Sharma was sentenced to life term around 20 years ago for killing one Bhoma Singh in Birsa Munda Central Jail in Ranchi, where he was in judicial custody in a number of criminal cases registered against him at different police stations of the city.
Once he was shifted to Dumka jail from Hazaribagh. The shifting was planned after the jail administration sensed that Sharma may cause gang war in the jail. Two years ago, he was brought back to the same jail.
Since life imprisonment, Sharma was noticed two times in Ranchi. First time he had come to give the last rite to his father and the second time he had come for the last rite of his mother. Both times he was granted parole.
