Ranchi, Jan 6: The third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic is rapidly turning grim in Jharkhand, with the state recording 4 deaths and 3,704 fresh infections on Thursday. The number of active cases in the state is likely to cross the 15000-mark again by today.
Of the new cases, Ranchi reported the highest number of cases at 1309 followed by East Singhbhum (722), Bokaro (229) and Deoghar (172) districts.
With the addition of new cases, the active caseload in the state mounted to 14,255.
The state recorded 4 death cases due to the corona infection taking the death toll to 5,153 in the state. The districts including Ranchi (1), East Singhbhum (2) and Dhanbad (1) recorded death cases in the last 24 hours according to the COVID-19 bulletin released by the state health department.
As many as 435 people recovered from the infection in the last 24 hours.
However, the 7 days growth rate still remained above the national growth rate, where the 7 days national growth rate is at 0.10% and the same for the state is 0.54%.
Dr Pradeep Bhattacharya, head of trauma and critical care in RIMS, said, “The strain is far more infectious than the previous Delta strain which emerged as the predominant strain during the deadly second wave and that is why it is infecting everyone, including those who are fully vaccinated. But it is far less virulent than the previous strain and patients are recovering in less time.”
Doctors are seeing this as a silver lining. With the active case likely to breach the 6,000-mark in Ranchi, asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic patients can be clinically managed in home isolation. “This will take the load off the health care infrastructure,” a doctor said.
