Jamshedpur, Jan 5: Amid a spike in Covid’s fresh cases in East Singhbhum two more deaths took place in Jamshedpur on Tuesday evening taking the death count to three in the last 72 hours.

The two deaths were reported from Mango and Chhota Govindpur. In Mango, a 71- year- old woman died suffering from Covid while an 80- year old man died in Chhota Govindpur.

Both the victims had taken double doses of the Covid vaccine. While the woman died at Tata Main Hospital the octogenarian breathed his last at the Tata Motors Hospital.

Despite a special Covid checking drive launched in the district on Monday, there has been an abrupt rise in fresh cases.

The district recorded 402  fresh cases of Coronavirus during the last 24 hours, a cause of major concern for the health department.

Among those infected were city SP Subhas Jat and nine doctors.

All restrictions have been imposed in the steel city as per guidelines issued by the state government.

Covid checking drives are being carried out in various public places including markets, railway stations and all entry points to the steel city.

For the second consecutive day, police drove away people who tried to enter Jubilee Park.

The Jubilee Park road was kept open for facilitating smooth traffic.
