PINAKI MAJUMDAR

Jamshedpur, April 25: State Health Minister Banna Gupta today filed a complaint case against his bete noire and MLA from Jamshedpur East,  Saryu Roy in Jamshedpur district court.

Last week, Banna Gupta had sent him a legal notice seeking an apology for the allegations levelled against the minister. It also mentioned that if Saryu Roy fails to apologise within three days, legal action would be taken against him.

In the complaint case, Gupta said that the allegations against him were misleading and baseless.

Roy had earlier accused minister Banna Gupta of his alleged irregularities in the incentive amount to the health workers during the Covid period. The health department also came out with a clarification saying that there were no financial irregularities and that action was taken as per rules.

Gupta also clarified his position before the media.

Notably, the controversy started when in a recent letter written to chief minister Hemant Soren, Roy levelled serious allegations against Banna Gupta of financial irregularities by misusing the treasury.

In the letter, Roy asked the chief minister to initiate action against Banna Gupta and recover illegal withdrawals made from the treasury.

The matter is related to the payment of incentive amount to those working during the Covid period.

In the complaint letter, Roy had said that during the Covid-19 period, illegal withdrawal to the tune of Rs 103 crores was made as incentives, which is a case of departmental malpractice and financial irregularities.
