Jamshedpur, Dec 20: A self-styled ‘area commander’ of the outlawed group Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-M), Kuldeep Ganju surrendered before the police at the West Singhbhum district headquarters in Chaibasa on Tuesday.
Kuldeep Ganju (29) who was wanted in connection with several cases of subversive acts while servings as the Kolhan area commander surrendered with a 303 rifle before a team of senior police officers at Chaibasa.
Speaking about the breakthrough, West Singhbhum SP Ashutosh Shekhar said Kuldeep had joined the Naxal outfit at the age of 17 and was active in carrying out subversive activities in Kolhan and outside.
“It is great that an area commander had to change his heart by surrendering before the administration. We will provide him with the benefits under the Naxal surrender policy and would ensure that he is accommodated in the social mainstream in course of time,” he added.
After the surrender, the former area commander was lodged in the Chaibasa divisional jail following his production before a judicial magistrate.
According to a senior police officer, the police are likely to take Kuldeep on police remand soon for making him divulge information about the Naxal activities in West Singhbhum and other parts of the region.
