Naypyidaw: China, Myanmar and Thailand have carried out a major joint operation against international cyber fraud networks, demolishing hundreds of buildings used for online gambling and telecom scams in Myanmar’s Myawaddy region.

494 Scam Hubs Razed in Myawaddy Region

As part of the coordinated crackdown, around 494 buildings linked to illegal online gambling and cyber fraud were demolished in Myanmar’s KK Park and Yatai New City areas. Authorities said these locations had become notorious hubs for telecom fraud and online scams, operating in a manner similar to India’s Jamtara, which is known for cybercrime activities.

Hundreds of Suspects Deported to China

During the joint operation, 952 suspected Chinese nationals involved in cyber fraud were arrested and deported to China. China’s Ministry of Public Security, through its Criminal Investigation Bureau, confirmed the action via its official WeChat account, stating that the suspects had been targeting Chinese citizens through online scams for a long time.

Joint Raids by Three Nations’ Law Enforcement Agencies

A special task force from China’s public security department, in collaboration with law enforcement agencies from Myanmar and Thailand, conducted raids across Myawaddy. Inspections were carried out on December 15 at major scam zones including KK Park and Yatai New City, followed by large-scale demolition drives between December 16 and 19.

Over 7,600 Fraud Suspects Repatriated This Year

Officials highlighted that sustained joint efforts by the three countries have led to more than 7,600 Chinese nationals involved in online gambling and telecom fraud being repatriated from the Myawaddy region to China this year, significantly weakening transnational cybercrime networks operating in Southeast Asia.
