Ranchi: The Assistant Excise Commissioner of Ranchi has issued an order to crack down on illegal liquor sales and consumption in hotels and dhabas operating around the city. The directive has been issued to Inspector Rajnish Kumar and Sub-Inspectors Pradeep Sharma, Dilip Kumar Sharma, Prakash Misha, and Rupesh Kumar.
Liquor Sale Triggered by Tip-Off
The order, dated April 29, cites reports of unauthorized liquor sales in eateries near the Ring Road and adjoining areas. It warns that such activities can lead to loss of government revenue and law and order issues, calling for an immediate raid operation to curb the practice.
Lagatar Media Reports Spark Action
This move comes days after Lagatar Media ran multiple reports highlighting how several roadside restaurants were allowing people to consume liquor for a fee of ₹200–₹400, violating excise laws.
Key Reports That Exposed the Truth:

Caught on Camera: Video Evidence on YouTube
On April 28, Lagatar Media’s YouTube channel Live Lagatar broadcasted footage showing customers drinking liquor inside Kanha Restaurant near Ring Road.
Reporter’s Note
Despite such clear video evidence and reports, the Assistant Commissioner’s order merely mentions “information received.” This raises concern that the directive might turn out to be a routine formality rather than a serious enforcement action. Will there be real consequences, or will the liquor trade continue under the radar?
