Mumbai, March 31: The Narcotics Control Bureau has been given an additional 60 days to file the chargesheet in the drugs-on-cruise case, in which 20 people were arrested last year, including actor Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan. The anti-drugs agency had sought a 90-day extension.

After nearly two hours of hearings, the court reserved the order on Wednesday. The NCB has been looking into the case for nearly six months, and the 180-day deadline for filing a chargesheet has passed. With the extension, the agency will attempt to close any gaps in the case and build a solid case against the defendant.

The NCB’s Special Investigation Team (SIT) has provided details of the agency’s operations over the last 180 days through Special Public Prosecutor Advait Sethna.

The forensic reports of the 17 samples sent to the Pune laboratory for investigation have arrived, and the agency asserts that the samples included narcotics or psychotropic medicines as defined by the NDPS Act, according to the reports, Sethna added.

Notably, the Narcotics Control Bureau raided cruise ships off the coast of Mumbai on October 2 last year, detaining Aryan Khan, a friend, and six others. Aryan Khan was arrested the next day on drug-related charges and given bail after 25 days. After spending two more nights in jail owing to procedural delays, he was released.
