Jaipur, Dec.25: A press release issued on Saturday revealed that the customs authorities recovered 491 grammes of gold biscuits worth Rs. 24.32 lakh from a traveller who came from Sharjah on Friday.
The person came on an Air Arabia flight, according to the release.
Dark images of various objects inside the face shaver machine (trimmer) were discovered during an x-ray scan of his checked baggage, indicating the concealing of some heavy/precious metal such as gold. When questioned, the person denied having or carrying any such materials and could not provide an adequate explanation.
Four solid Biscuits of fine Gold (of 99.99 percent purity) were found concealed when the face shaver machine (trimmer) was dismantled, and one small Gold Biscuit of fine Gold (purity of 99.99 percent) was found separately encased in black carbon plastic sheet of multilayers.
The smuggled gold was seized by the authorities under the provisions of the Customs Act of 1962.
