New Delhi, Aug 7: Annu Rani became the first female Indian javelin thrower to take home a medal in Commonwealth Games Games. In her fourth attempt, Rani launched the spear 60 metres away in an effort to bring home the bronze medal for her nation.

Australia’s Kelsey-Lee Barber, the world champion, defeated compatriot Mackenzie Little (64.27m), who had the lead at the end of the penultimate round, to win the gold with a throw of 64.43 metres in the final round.

In the men’s javelin throw competition before Rani, Kashinath Naik and Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra took home the bronze and gold in the 2010 and 2018 editions, respectively.

Meanwhile, Sandeep Kumar of India captured bronze in the men’s 10,000-meter racewalk competition with a personal-best performance. In order to finish behind gold medalist Evan Dunfee of Canada (38:36.37) and Declan Tingay of Australia (38:42.33), Kumar ran 38:49.21 metres.

Amit Khatri, the other competing Indian, came in tenth with a season-best time of 43:04.97.
