CWG 2022: Judoka Sushila enters final, boxer Amit Panghal in last 8

Birmingham, Aug 1: India’s Sushila Devi Likmabam defeated Priscilla Morand of Mauritius in the women’s 48 kg semifinals to guarantee herself at least a silver medal. In addition, boxer Amit Panghal has advanced to the flyweight quarterfinals.

Meanwhile, Ajay Singh placed fourth in the men’s 81 kg category in weightlifting. Earlier in the day, in the women’s four lawn bowls semi-final, the Indian team scripted history by defeating New Zealand to guarantee at least a silver medal. Additionally, India would like to add more gold medals to their collection on Day 4 of the CWG 2022 after winning two gold medals on Sunday. India has won six medals so far (three gold, two silver and one bronze).

On Sunday, two weightlifters excelled for India. Before Achinta Sheuli’s breakout performance in the 73kg category, Jeremy Lalrinnunga of India earned a yellow metal in the 67kg division. After Olympic silver medalist Mirabai Chanu won a gold medal in the 49 kg division, India’s first top podium finish of the current Games, the duo’s success followed.

On Monday, a number of elite Indian athletes will compete. India and Singapore will compete in the mixed team semifinal of badminton. The Indian men’s table tennis team will face Nigeria in the semifinal match. Joshana Chinappa and Saurav Ghoshal will compete in their respective quarterfinal matches in squash. Hussam Uddin Mohammed (57 kg) and Ashish Kumar (80 kg) will fight in the sport of boxing.
