New Delhi, Dec 6: There were 6,000 or more attempts to get into the server of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) On November 30. The hackers did not, however, succeed in their mission.
The National Informatics Center (NIC) is writing a comprehensive report on the hacking effort.
According to sources, a blacklisted IP address based in Hong Kong was used to attack the ICMR website. However, the server firewall at ICMR was impenetrable and prevented hackers from obtaining patient data.
“The ICMR website is safe. The site is hosted at NIC Data Centre, the firewall is from NIC and & is regularly updated. NIC was informed through email regarding a cyber attack and has reported that the attack was prevented. ICMR has found the website in the order,” Official Sources quoted by the news agency ANI.

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi had severe service disruptions earlier on November 23 as a result of the hospital’s server going down for about nine hours. According to a statement issued by AIIMS, the server was unavailable because of a potential ransomware assault.
The personal information of millions of patients was then compromised on December 2 when a cyberattack targeted the hospital’s five primary systems. The cyberattack was allegedly carried out by Chinese hackers, according to sources.
A cyber attack was reported at Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital a few days later, on December 4. The attack was less severe than those at AIIMS, though.
