Ranchi, Jan 31: A Cybercriminal in Ranchi duped Rs 1.5 lakh from a doctor couple in Hindpiri. The couple, Khurshida Alam and Mozib Alam, posted as doctors in Khunti, lodged an FIR in this connection explaining the modus operandi of the fraud.

The couple had advertised on a site to rent out their residence. The advertisement carried their mobile number. On January 20, Khursida received a call. The caller identified him as an army officer and expressed his interest in the house. Khurshida informed her husband. Both agreed to give the house on rent to the caller.

After the deal was finalised, the caller asked the couple to transfer some money to his account to ensure the correctness of the account and then to send an advance online to the account to which the couple agreed.

They transferred some amount but the caller said the amount was not credited to his account. He suggested downloading an app and transferring the amount through the app for convenience.

As soon as the couple downloaded the app, Rs 1.5 lakh was debited from their account three times. When the couple was informed about the same, he accepted to have received the amount saying that the amount will be returned. Later he switched off the mobile phone.

After the couple realised that they were duped they registered an FIR.
