Daltonganj, Dec. 22: Inmates of the Daltonganj central jail are going to receive their Covid-19 vaccine very soon.
Palamu district epidemiologist Dr Anup Kumar Singh said that Civil Surgeon Dr Anil Kumar has directed to hold a vaccination drive in the jail premises.
A man named Qasim Ansari at Chiyanki said that he had spent the previous three months in the central jail, where he had been unable to be vaccinated. Ansari stated that he is currently free on bail.
Dr Anup said the version of Ansari has prompted the administration to hold a vaccination drive in the jail.
However, the last vaccination drive in the central jail was held in the month of August. So, Ansari’s claim of not being vaccinated has left the authorities perplexed.
Accused persons are only remanded in judicial custody after undergoing a Covid test, which must be negative. However, there is no requirement that the accused be vaccinated with the first or second dosage.
Apart from prisoners, the district health authorities have to make extra efforts to convince the people to take their dosage of the Covid-19 vaccine.
Dr Anup said he met two women working at a harvested field in the outer area of Chiyanki. One of them complained that she doesn’t get the time to get her second dose. The other woman told him that she has not yet taken the vaccine nor is she in any hurry to take it.
Dr Anup on hearing this had to convince these two women not to delay the vaccination anymore as it was for their own well-being.
