Daltonganj, February 5: The Public Works department in the district is set to build two more halls in the Central Library here to overcome the space crunch for visitors. The halls are to be built on a Rs 2.19 crore budget for the visitors to this library whose number is spiralling up.

Officials have claimed that there are 470 members at the library and on an average 100-120 visitors visit the library per day, however, now there is a shortage of space for the visitors.

Nasim Ali, the executive engineer at the building division, Public Works department, said, “The Palamu DC Anjaneyulu Dodde has directed us to prepare a DPR (detailed project report) for two big halls at the Library. Around Rs 2.19 crore in funds have also been provided and we are determined to start this project.”

Ali further said the two halls would be furnished with furniture, and bookshelves among other requirements for the comfort and convenience of the visitors.

Librarian Manjit said that the Palamu DC inspected the library on Saturday. Here, the DC was apprised of the issues including drinking water, washrooms for gents and ladies, and cataloguing of books and periodicals which account for over 75,000 in numbers and need to be scientifically placed for the convenience of the visitors.

Sources said the central library is looking forward to the E Granthalay software for better upkeep of books.
