Daltonganj, Oct. 26: The Daltonganj police have arrested four people for possessing and selling heroin. One woman out of the accused people was later found to be Covid positive.

The Officer-in-charge of the town police station Daltonganj, A K Mahatha, revealed this information to the media and said that police had recovered 13 grams of heroin from the arrested people.

Only three accused have been sent to judicial custody today. The arrested woman, Ajanti Devi, has been admitted to the isolation ward of the Medinirai Medical College Hospital (MMCH) for Covid care.

Civil surgeon Palamu, Anil Kumar, informed that the woman has tested covid positive in rapid antigen test and she is in the isolation covid ward. The district epidemiologist, Dr Anup Kumar Singh, has been directed to get the RTPCR test done on the woman.

The police station has been sanitized afterward. Officials were directed to follow other covid protocols as well by the officer-in-charge. Three other accused caught along with this woman- Raja, Rakesh and Bajrangi- are negative and fit.

When asked about the drug racket, Mahatha said Ajanti Devi used to play a major role. She used to get substances from a woman in Garhwa named Geeta Soni, who was recently arrested by the Chhattisgarh police on the same charges.

Bajrangi was caught in possession of 3 grams of heroin and Rakesh with 7 grams.  The accused have themselves admitted that the seized substance is heroin but police will send it to FSL Ranchi for analysis and confirmation.

A gram of heroin comes first for 1,200 rupees but a drug addict gets it for around 2,200 rupees.

The Covid positive accused woman Ajanti Devi used to earn her living by selling drugs. Police recovered 4,740 rupees in cash from her which she earned recently by selling heroin.

Among the four arrested, one is a drug addict and the other is a peddler. Ajanti Devi and Raja are drug network players in the town Daltonganj.

Mahatha said police had the information that this woman was involved in a drug network but they waited for the right moment to take any action. Today, they got a tip-off about two men Rakesh and Bajrangi coming to her from Garhwa with heroin, and arrested all of them including Raja.
