Daltonganj, Jan 5: The debacle of vaccination of eligible teens in Palamu remained unabated even on the second day of the launching of vaccination of eligible teens which was on January 3.
Civil surgeon Dr Anil Kumar said that on the second day (January 4) only a meagre 1700 plus vaccination of the eligible teens was carried out which is very disappointing. On the first day of the launching, Palamu did a little over 800 vaccinations of the teens.
Palamu has a targeted population of 1,41,000 eligible teens who are to be vaccinated. Nobody at this stage with this vaccination rate can predict when these 1,41,000 teens would be vaccinated. The snail’s pace of vaccination has raised serious consternation in the district health setup.
The civil surgeon said that he stands devastated by the way some medical officers in charge of the community health centres have done with the vaccination.
According to the CS, there is a community health centre at Bishrampur which carried out 15 and 18 vaccinations on two successive days.
Bishrampur block is one such place where there are many more educational institutions like Chandravanshi’s medical college, engineering college, B. Ed college, physical training college, nursing school, inter schools and lots of high schools but when it comes to vaccination of teens, it was below 20 for two successive days.
Similarly, the community health centre at Lesliganj did 30 plus teens’ vaccination on the second day.
Palamu which used to occupy a place in the first three among the districts of the state is right now at the lowest in terms of the vaccination of the teens.
Coordination between health and educational institutions is wanting. The health teams are mostly demotivated. There is the inertia of no work to be done in the medical set up here, according to sources.
