New Delhi, May 17: The Saket Court on Tuesday postponed the hearing on a petition concerning the restoration of 27 Hindu and Jain temples in Mehrauli’s Qutub Minar complex until May 24.
The Quwwat-Ul-Islam Masjid, located within the Qutub Minar complex in Mehrauli, is alleged to have been built in lieu of a temple complex. The complaint demands the restoration of the claimed temple complex, which includes as many as 27 temples, on behalf of Jain deity Tirthankar Lord Rishabh Dev and Hindu deity Lord Vishnu (through their next of friends).
The case will be heard again on May 24.
According to the source, the case’s lawyer, Vishnu Shankar Jain, is currently unavailable in Delhi. The hearing has been rescheduled for May 24 due to the unavailability of the counsel in Delhi.
According to the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), 27 Hindu and Jain temples were demolished, and the Quwwat-ul-Islam Mosque was built inside the complex using reclaimed materials in an attempt to repair the temples.
Lord Vishnu, Lord Shiva, Lord Ganesh, Lord Sun, Goddess Gauri, Lord Hanuman, Jain deity Tirthankar Lord Rishab Dev have the right to be restored within the temple complex at the site of Quwwatul Mosque Complex, Mehrauli, south-west Delhi after rebuilding it with the same honour and dignity, according to the suit.
