Ranchi, Oct 21: The Delhi High Court directed the Special Court of NIA to take decision on bail plea of Ranchi based youth Manzar Imam within 75 days.

Justice Jasmeet Singh disposed of the bail plea after Manjar Imam’s lawyer withdrew it at liberty to approach the trial court. The situation came after counsel appearing for the NIA argued that Imam has not exhausted the remedy of approaching the special judge.

Imam is an accused of being terrorist having association with Indian Mujahideen. National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested him on October 1, 2013 and registered a case against him under various sections of Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA). The sections under which the FIR was registered include 17, 18, 18B and 20 of UAPA and sections 121A and 123 of IPC.

There is allegation against Imam that he conspired with other people to carry out terrorist incidents and planned to target major places of the country.

Charges against Manjar have not even been framed so far. A total of 369 witnesses are to be examined in this case. In 2021, Manjar had filed another petition before the High Court seeking a day-to-day hearing in his case before the trial court.
