New Delhi, Jan 16: Delhi High Court granted interim bail to expelled BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar on Monday for his daughter’s wedding.

Notably, Sengar was sentenced to life imprisonment for raping an Unnao-based 17-year-old girl back in 2017.  After this, he was expelled from the post of MLA from the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP).

Sengar had requested the court on December 19, 2022, for interim bail for a period of two months in order to attend his daughter’s wedding.

A division bench consisting of Justice Mukta Gupta and Justice Poonam A Bamba granted Sengar interim bail for a period of 15 days, from January 27 to February 10.

Sengar was one of several men who had raped the minor girl on several occasions in Unnao, UP. He was charged under Section 376 (2) (rape committed by a public servant) of IPC.

In 2019, former BJP MLA Sengar was convicted of rape and was sentenced to life imprisonment. Later, Sengar was also found guilty in the case of the death of the victim’s father in judicial custody.
