New Delhi: In a significant move aimed at benefiting workers in the unorganised sector, Delhi Chief Minister Atishiannounced an increase in minimum wages during her first press conference since taking office. The revised wages include ₹18,066 for unskilled workers, ₹19,929 for semi-skilled workers, and ₹21,917 for skilled workers.

Atishi highlighted that under the leadership of Arvind Kejriwal, the AAP government ensured that Delhi’s minimum wages were the highest in the country, offering substantial support to city labourers. She accused the BJP of being “anti-poor” and criticized the wage rates in BJP-ruled states, claiming they were “perhaps half” of what is being paid in Delhi.

Twice-Yearly Revisions

The Delhi CM emphasized that despite resistance from the BJP, the AAP government not only implemented minimum wages through court intervention but also ensured that they were revised twice a year, keeping the wages in line with inflation and cost of living adjustments.

This wage hike is expected to provide much-needed relief to workers in Delhi’s unorganised sector, ensuring they receive fair compensation for their work.
