New Delhi, April 20: The Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) declared on Wednesday that the mask mandate will be reinstated in the Capital city.
Residents of the national capital would be required to wear masks in public areas, according to the authority, which met today and was chaired by the Delhi Lt Governor. Those found in breach of the rule will be fined Rs 500, according to the DDMA.
The DDMA meeting comes as the number of Covid-19 cases in Delhi continues to rise. Earlier this week, Delhi reported 632 new cases of Covid-19; nevertheless, the number of hospitalizations is modest, and Covid-related deaths are rare.
On Monday, Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain stated that the Covid situation in the city was not alarming, despite the fact that cases were increasing. He had stated that the number of hospitalizations was modest and that the government was monitoring the matter.
Meanwhile, in response to rise in Covid-19 cases in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR), other neighbouring states have made the mask mandatory in many of their districts.
The governments of Uttar Pradesh and Haryana decided on Monday to reinstate the mask mandates in some of their districts, fearful of the fourth wave of Covid-19. Everyone in the city, notably schoolchildren, will be required to wear masks.
