New Delhi, Nov 15: The Supreme Court on Monday asked the Central government to call for an “emergency meeting” on November 16 with Punjab, Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. SC also sought an action plan to curb air pollution in Delhi-NCR by Wednesday morning when the case will be heard next.

A bench, headed by Chief Justice NV Ramana, conclude that the major culprit of air pollution in the national capital are construction activities, industries, power plants and vehicular transportation and stubble burning was not the chief contributor to the rising levels of pollution in Delhi-NCR.

The bench directed the Centre that its Committee, set up to look into air pollution issue, convene an emergency meeting with Chief secretaries and take into account issues suggested by it.

Postponing the matter for hearing on November 17, SC asked Haryana and Punjab government to persuade the farmers to stop the stubble burning for a week.
