New Delhi: Delhi Police have registered an FIR against Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and several other INDIA bloc MPs on charges of entering the Akashvani Bhawan premises without permission and staging a sit-in there.
March Without Permission Led to Akashvani Bhawan Sit-In
On Tuesday, the INDIA bloc had taken out a march from Parliament House to the Election Commission headquarters without permission, demanding the removal of CEC Gyanesh Kumar and protesting alleged vote theft through the SIR. Police stopped the MPs with barricades before they could reach the Commission’s office. Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi and other opposition MPs then allegedly forced their way into the nearby Akashvani Bhawan complex, where they sat on a dharna for more than eight hours, demanding that they be allowed to meet the election commissioner.
About 260 MPs Detained, Released Late at Night
When the MPs did not vacate the premises, Delhi Police detained around 260 of them, including Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi, at about 10 pm and took them to New Police Lines at Kingsway Camp. All were released late at night. According to reports, the FIR was registered under various sections of the BNS relating to law and order and public safety, based on a complaint by Akashvani employees.
