New Delhi, Nov 15: The Delhi Police led Aaftab Ameen Poonawala to the Mehrauli forest area on Tuesday, where he dumped Shraddha Walkar’s body parts after strangling, chopping them into 35 pieces, and keeping them in a 300-liter refrigerator for several days.

Aaftab was kidnapped from the Mehrauli Police Station and carried into the woods to retrieve the body parts he had scattered at various locations one by one. Not all of her remains have been discovered. Police are also attempting to locate the murder tool that was used to dismember Shraddha.

Aaftab also abandoned Shraddha’s phone, which the Delhi Police claim can be recovered by tracing her last known whereabouts.

Aaftab and Shraddha Walkar met each other on an online dating app. Later, they started working for the same call centre in Mumbai and fell in love. But their families objected to the relationship as they belonged to different faiths, prompting the couple to move out of the financial capital and come to Delhi.

On May 18, the two had a heated argument on the matter of marriage. Aftab strangled Shraddha in the heat of the moment. To evade arrest, he chopped her body into multiple pieces. He concealed the murder by staying active on the victim’s social media account. He also googles methods of blood cleaning and how to dispose of the evidences.

For the following 16 days, he would dispose of certain body pieces each night. In order to prevent the scent of decay from permeating the home, he burned agarbatti. When he was held for questioning, he  admitted the crime.
