New Delhi, Jan 16: With another cold wave approaching Northwest India, Delhi has recorded season’s lowest temperature of 1.4 degrees celsius on Monday.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also issued a yellow alert in Delhi for the next six days due to the impending extreme coldwave in the national capital region.
According to the IMD, the minimum temperature of 1.4 degree Celsius is six degrees below typical for this time of year and the second-lowest minimum temperature recorded in January in a decade.
Delhi shivers as Lodhi Road records a minimum temperature of 1.6 degrees Celsius while Safdarjung records a 1.4 degrees Celsius minimum temperature today, as per the IMD.

The minimum temperature in the national capital has dropped by around nine degrees in just two days. It was 4.7 degrees Celsius on Sunday and 10.2 degrees Celsius on Saturday.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted intense cold wave conditions to continue through the next three days.
The last time a lower minimum temperature was recorded at Safdarjung was 1.1 degree Celsius in January 2021. Meanwhile, the IMD has predicted a clear sky today with a Maximum temperature would be hovering around 18 degrees Celsius.
Not just Delhi but cold wave has swept whole of northwest India.
The IMD has predicted that cold wave conditions will return in various states, including Delhi, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh, till January 19, 2023. Following that, a new cold wave with dense fog is expected to sweep regions of north India.
In Haryana, Hisar recorded a minimum temperature of 0.8 degrees Celsius, while Punjab’s Amritsar saw the temperature plunging to 1.5 degrees Celsius.
The chilly weather has incited Chandigarh and Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut to extend the winter break for students of up to Class 8.
