New Delhi, June 18: Two women were shot and killed by unknown gunmen in Delhi’s R.K. Puram police station area during the early morning hours of Sunday, said police.

Police added that despite being taken to the hospital immediately, both women died from their wounds.

Manoj C, the Deputy Commissioner of Police for South West Delhi, reported that around 4:40 in the morning, RK Puram police station received a call reporting that someone had shot the caller’s sisters at Ambedkar Basti.

Police team responded to the call immediately they arrived at the scene and discovered two women who had been shot, Pinky (30) and Jyoti (29), who had been taken to SJ hospital but died as a result of their wounds.

Primarily, it appears that the gunmen were seeking the victim’s brother and the shooting appears to have been motivated by a dispute over money, according to the police official, but the precise reason won’t be known until a thorough investigation is done.

Police are attempting to arrest the accused after a case was registered under the relevant section.

Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister of Delhi, claimed on Sunday that if the AAP had been in power instead of the lieutenant governor, the national capital would have been the safest place to live. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal questioned the city’s law and order condition.

“Our thoughts are with the families of the two women. May their souls rest in peace. The people of Delhi have started feeling quite insecure. Those who are responsible for handling the law and order situation in Delhi are hatching conspiracy to take control of Delhi government instead of fixing the situation,” Kejriwal said in a tweet in Hindi.
