New Delhi: Delhi’s air quality plunged back into the ‘severe’ category on Saturday morning, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded at 420. This comes amidst persistently hazardous conditions that have plagued the national capital for over 20 days.
Nine Stations Record ‘Severe Plus’ Air Quality
Out of the 38 monitoring stations in Delhi, nine registered AQI levels exceeding 450, classifying them in the ‘severe plus’ category. Another 19 stations reported ‘severe’ air quality with AQI between 400 and 450. The remaining stations recorded air quality in the ‘very poor’ category.
Weather Conditions Add to Challenges
Delhi’s minimum temperature on Saturday morning was recorded at 11.4 degrees Celsius, while the humidity level stood at 97% at 8.30 am. The maximum temperature is expected to settle at 25 degrees Celsius, while the minimum is forecasted at 12 degrees Celsius.
Prolonged Hazardous Conditions
Delhi’s air quality has remained hazardous for weeks. It first slipped into the ‘very poor’ category on October 30 and stayed there for 15 days. Last Sunday marked a further decline as the air quality entered the ‘severe’ category, persisting through Monday and Tuesday. By Wednesday, the city faced ‘severe plus’ air quality.
Thursday brought a brief reprieve due to favorable wind conditions, but the air quality began deteriorating again on Friday, nearing the ‘severe’ threshold.
