Ranchi: The INDIA bloc, comprising the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), Congress, and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), has gained a significant lead in the Jharkhand Assembly elections. Early trends suggest the alliance has crossed the majority mark of 41 seats, securing a probable win.
INDIA Bloc Secures Lead Amid Intense Contest
After an initial lead by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led NDA, Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s JMM fought back to overtake its rival. By 10:30 am, the INDIA alliance was leading in 51 out of 81 seats, while the NDA held 28.
The elections were held in two phases, with voting for 43 constituencies on November 13 and 38 seats a week later.
Exit Polls Offer Contrasting Projections
Predictions from exit polls had varied significantly:
•Matrize: NDA (42-47 seats), INDIA bloc (25-30 seats)
•TimesNow-JVC: NDA (40-44 seats), INDIA bloc (30-40 seats)
•People’s Pulse: NDA (42-48 seats), INDIA bloc (16-23 seats)
•Axis My India: INDIA bloc (49-59 seats), NDA (far behind)
•P Marq: INDIA bloc (37-47 seats)
•Dainik Bhaskar: Predicted a hung assembly with both alliances at 36-40 seats.
Despite several projections favoring the NDA, Hemant Soren’s camp remained confident of retaining power with a strong majority.
JMM’s Confidence in a Resounding Win
The JMM-led INDIA bloc had asserted its dominance across 24 districts in Jharkhand. JMM general secretary Supriyo Bhattacharya stated:
“After the counting of votes on November 23, our government will return with a new mandate and a focus on public good.”

Several high-profile constituencies have drawn attention:
•Barhait: Hemant Soren faces a tough battle.

•Dumri: INDIA bloc’s Bebi Devi emerges as a key candidate.
•Gande: Kalpana Soren, wife of Hemant Soren, represents JMM.
