Daltonganj, August 20: Residents have been advised to be on dengue alert and in the event of persistent fever not to ignore it any more.
Medical officers in- charge of the community health centres, additional primary health centres and other governmental health hubs have been directed to be alert for any case of dengue.
Palamu Civil Surgeon Dr Anil Kumar said today, “I have asked my medical officers in- charge in the peripheral health centres to be extra alert and cautious and not to miss any case having symptoms of dengue. We are determined to contain and control it by all means.”
The symptoms of dengue are high fever, excessive pain in joints and back, muscle pain, nausea and vomiting, loss of appetite, rashes on the limbs etc. In severe cases bleeding and the person going into trauma are reported, said a noted physician R K Ranjan.
The platelets go down fast in dengue. An average healthy platelet count is 1,50,000 but in dengue cases, it falls sharp coming to below 50,000 or so. Here there arises immediate replenishment to the platelets.
Dragon fruit is said to be a good source of platelet increaser. Papaya fruit comes next to it. Curd and yogurt food helps but dengue patients having high fever dread eating curd for fear of cough. There are reports of taking the juice of papaya leaves.
“In the event of even a single positive case of dengue we are to have ORA which is Outbreak Response Activity and there can’t be any laxity in it” reminded the Civil Surgeon.
Dr Anil Kumar has appealed to housewives, businessmen, students, girls and the labour class to wear a full-sleeved shirt/ kurti/ gown during the day and to use a mosquito net at night. Prevention is preferred to cure he repeated.
The Civil Surgeon said there are reports of a high number of cases of dengue in some regions of Jharkhand but there is no reason to be in panic here in Palamu. He asked for better and more effective health management.
District epidemiologist Dr Anup Kumar Singh told this correspondent “Till date there is no official record of dengue case either with the MMCH Daltonganj or in its peripheral health centres.” However, there are reports of patients visiting private doctors having symptoms of dengue.
However, the district epidemiologist said “Cases suspected to be of dengue do come which are tested in the DPHL (District Public Health Lab) where Eliza test is done. There is no positive case so far. It’s all a negative case.”
The district epidemiologist said kit tests done in the private lab in respect of dengue can have confirmatory tests for dengue in our DPHL Daltonganj.
On the other hand, Civil Surgeon Dr Anil Kumar said “If Eliza test proves positive then samples of blood of the person affected are sent to the RIMS Ranchi for genome sequencing to it.”
