Ranchi, Sept 16: Soni Kumari of Deoghar has been selected for the National Lawn Ball Championship to be held in Assam.

Soni Kumari is going to represent not only Deoghar district but also the state. And she is the only player in the Under 25 category to participate in the competition from Deoghar. The championship will be held in Assam from September 23 to September 30 this year.

She has been a student of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Deoghar and associated with lawn ball since the very beginning.

Soni has also been a football player. As a football player she has represented her school Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in the National Game. She has also represented the state of Jharkhand in the Khelo India competition, known as Kumbh for sports players, where she won two silvers for the state in the Khelo India held in Guwahati, Assam in 2020. Her dedication to this game can be gauged from the fact that she has camped in capital city Ranchi and has been practicing on her guts for the last several months.

Talking to Lagatar24.com, Deoghar District Sports Authority Secretary Ashish Jha said that this is a matter of joy and pride for Deoghar district. He said that this is a golden opportunity for Soni. According to him, if Soni wins the medal she may become a strong contender for the National Games to be held in Goa in the month of October this year. It is noteworthy that Lawn Ball has been recognised as a core game in the Commonwealth Games. And there are many players from Jharkhand state who have won medals for the country in the Commonwealth Games. These players include Lovely Chaubey, Rupa Rani Tirkey, Dinesh Kumar Sunil and many more.
