New Delhi, July 25: SpiceJet has been removed from the DGCA’s (Directorate General of Civil Aviation) enhanced surveillance regime, a top official said on Tuesday.

The airline, which has been experiencing numerous challenges, recently came under enhanced surveillance.

SpiceJet was under enhanced surveillance because of previous complaints about poor maintenance and mishaps during the monsoon season the previous year, a senior DGCA official said.

“Accordingly 51 spot checks were conducted across 11 locations pan India, on the Boeing 737 and Bombardier DHC Q-400 fleet of aircraft, where in a total 23 aircraft were inspected and 95 observations were made by the DGCA teams,” the official said.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) did not deem the findings to be important because they were of a regular nature.

“Suitable maintenance action was taken by the airline to address the findings in accordance with DGCA guidelines. As a consequence, SpiceJet has been taken off the enhanced surveillance regime by DGCA,” the official said.

SpiceJet denied any such development on July 11 after it was reported that the DGCA has put the airline under an enhanced surveillance regime.

In response to inquiries, a SpiceJet official had stated, “the information is absolutely incorrect and is strongly denied”.

The airline has not received such a communication from the DGCA, the spokesperson said in a statement on July 11.
