Dhanbad Oct 29: In order to keep control of Covid infection from spreading, the Dhanbad district administration has deployed six magistrates in the city to ensure appropriate behaviour and proper implementation of Covid protocol to be followed by the public.

Dhanbad Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Prem Kumar Tiwari, said that the magistrates would monitor the hustle-bustle posh markets of the coal city and would take action against violators of Covid protocols. The magistrate in coordination with the ‘flying squad’ would send the violators to Govindpur based Jharkhand Armed Police (JAP) -3 sensitization camp which is 15 kilometres away.

This is the first time that in addition to the flying squad, the district administration has deployed six magistrates for monitoring the behaviour of people in marketplaces regarding wearing masks and maintaining social distance. With the decline in numbers of Covid cases, the majority of people in the district were seen without masks and violating social distancing protocol.

“Deployment of magistrates in posh markets and crowded spots in the city would help in maintaining Covid protocols and keeping the infection under control,” said the SDM while announcing the decision.

A senior medical officer of the district health department on Friday said that having seen Covid cases rising in Jamshedpur and Ranchi, the Dhanbad district administration has decided to tighten the noose around violators again.

The official said that magistrates have been deployed at Pooja Talkies roundabout, railway station, Naya Bazar, Purana Bazar, Bank More posh market, Matkuria, Karkendra market, Centre Point, Randhir Verma Chowk Court More, DRM  Chowk, Bekarbandh  Hirapur Hatiya, Park Market, City Centre, Bartand Bus Stand, Prabhatam Mall, SSLNT Women’s College, Circular Road, Police Line, Steel Gate Saraidhela Big bazaar and Goal Building roundabout to keep a close watch on behaviour of people.

According to sources, since the influx of infected persons from other states have already been checked with strict testing on the border and railway station, stern implementation of  Covid protocols inside the district would help in keeping the pandemic away from people.
