Dhanbad, Dec 29: Eight members of the Taekwondo team of Binod Bihari Mahto Koylanchal University (BBMKU) were selected on December 20 at KB College Bermo on basis of the performance of students for the Amritsar inter-university championship is likely to be held from January 2 to January 7.
However, the team did not get permission from the university to go. The selected students even proposed to go at their own cost, but the vice-chancellor disagreed with it.
Dr SS Pal, Principal of KB College, Bermo has to pay the price for lapses of BBMKU authorities in denying the participation of the Taekwondo team in the Amritsar inter-university championship.
In wake of student union protests from NSUI and ABVP wings, the authorities and principal were embroiled in the blame game. Sources said that rattled by the allegation of Dr SS Pal, the vice-chancellor dismissed the principal from the post and transferred him to the postgraduate (PG) political science department in Dhanbad. Now, Dr KP Sinha has been assigned the charge of principal.
As per the information, the vice-chancellor signed on the notification for sacking the principal. Since the university is closed, the notification is likely to be issued on January 2.
Sukhdeo Bhoi, the vice-chancellor, said, “He came to know on December 22 that the team was not participating in the inter-university championship. I have spoken to the principal and the Dean of Students Welfare (DSW) about the matter. I found it lapsed from the side of the principal and so strict action will be taken”.
Meanwhile, Dr SS Pal claimed that he had sent the list of selected teams to the Vice-chancellor and Dean of Students Welfare on December 20. He also has the confirmation receipt from the authorities.
Teachers at the university have alleged that the vice-chancellor has made the principal scapegoat to save him.
“Such things had never happened in five years. Mukul Narayan Dev, the vice-chancellor of Vinoba Bhave University (VBU), Hazaribagh, had additional charges of BBMKU but he never failed to uplift the students and promoted sports activities,” said a senior teacher.
The selected students have also held the vice-chancellor responsible for blocking their entry into the inter-university championship. “We requested him to allow us to represent the university in the inter-university championship at our own cost but he blatantly said that we should prepare for next year. He even denied to give the authorization to participate,” said the students.
Gopal Krishna, district president of NSUI has strongly protested the lapses of university authorities in sending the team. ”Due to a lack of coordination among the authorities, the students of BBMKU had to suffer. The authorities would have to reply why the team did not participate and ensure such a thing will not happen in future again,” said Gopal Krishna.
