Dhanbad, April 26: A committee would study the row of PhD increments for teachers of Binod Bihari Mahto Koylanchal University (BBMKU) Dhanbad.

Vice-chancellor (VC) Dr Mukul Narayan Dev said that he would soon constitute a two or three-member experts’ committee to study the notification of the human resource department over giving PhD and M.Phil increments to teachers of BBMKU so that confusion on this issue could be sorted.

Teachers of BBMKU teachers are on a boil over the denial of the benefit. A delegation of the BBMKU Teachers’ Association under general secretary Dr Himanshu Shekhar Choudhary had met the VC and requested him to take the guidelines from HRD over the issue as university authorities have denied the benefit by misinterpreting the government’s notice.

“A delegation of the BBMKU Teachers’ Association met me on Friday (April 22) and demanded a PhD increment. I did not make any commitment to them on the issue. But at the same time, I would say there is no objection to going through the demand. If their demand is right, then the university would have to give it to them. So, a comprehensive study of the HRD department’s resolution will clear everything,” said Dr Mukul Narayan Dev.

The VC said that the teachers’ body has pointed out that a government notification has been misinterpreted by authorities of BBMKU. So the university would study the resolution of HRD and do accordingly.

The resolution of the state government says as per the UGC 6th pay commission recommendation, a teacher who joins with a PhD degree shall be entitled to 5 non-compounded increments. But the teacher who will attain a PhD degree after joining shall be entitled to 3 non-compounded increments.

The teachers’ body claim that Section 9.5 of the resolution has specifically mentioned that the teacher who has already enrolled for PhD shall also avail of the benefit of 3 non-compounded increments.

Interestingly, BBMKU authorities have denied the increment to teachers entitled to it but at the same time, some teachers of Vinoba Bhave University (VBU) Hazaribagh are being given the increment.

VC Dr Mukul Narayan Dev said that he would not let any issue with teachers pending. Even the B.Ed fee issue of students would be sorted out soon. He highly appreciated the dedication of university authorities especially Dean of Students Welfare (DSW) Dr Devjani Biswas and others saying that their hard work has helped in solving all burning issues of the university.
