Dhanbad, Feb 6: Chitranjan Kumar of the 1987 batch and Piyush Kishore of the 1984 batch unanimously became the president and vice-president of the BIT Sindri Alumni Association Dhanbad chapter for the next session.
At the annual get-together meet of BIT Sindri Alumni Association Dhanbad chapter at Sindri Union Club held on Sunday, Kishore Yadav of the 1987 batch and Mrs Meena were unanimously selected as general secretary and treasurer respectively.
On the occasion, the Dhanbad Chapter Alumni Association felicitated Vinod Tulsian of the 1968 batch student of the institution.
BIT Sindri director Dr DK Singh, who also graced the meet, highly appreciated the step of alumni for activating the Dhanbad chapter and urged them to enhance their activities.
The new president of the Dhanbad chapter Chitranjan Kumar said that the new committee of the association has underlined its mission and vision to increase social and technical activities for students as well as institutions on a priority basis.
“Since we all (engineers) belong to a privileged class, our responsibility also grows to give a contribution to students and institutions in whatever position we are. We can guide students, and help them to stand on their own feet. This can be done by enhancing social and technical activities,” said president Kumar.
Chitranjan Kumar, a 1987 entry batch student of BIT Sindri said, “the Dhanbad chapter has hundreds of members. But some of them are seniors, some of them have become old and some of them are engaged in professional life and we are not able to call them at the get-together meeting. But some alumni are interested and active to activate the activities.”
Vice president Piyush Kishore (general manager of Bharat Coking Coal Limited), who played a major role in organising the Dhanbad chapter get-together, suggested several steps for increasing the activities of the association.
BIT Sindri has 43 chapters of alumni associations in the country including nine international chapters.
Last week, the Jamshedpur chapter of BIT Sindri selected seven girl engineering students for giving scholarships.
