Dhanbad, Aug 29: A class 10 girl student of CBSE-affiliated SGD Modern School Chirkunda, around 40 km from here, allegedly attempted suicide by drinking phenyl in the school washroom after being caught with a mobile phone on Tuesday.
She was first admitted to a private health centre followed by Nirsa Community Health Centre. Having seen her condition, doctors referred her to Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) Dhanbad.
The principal of the school, Jubin Bose, told media persons that despite the ban, the girl had come to school with a mobile phone. She became upset when a teacher seized her mobile phone. Rattled by the seizure, she went to the washroom and drank phenyl that was kept there.
When her health condition began deteriorating she informed the class teacher about drinking phenyl. The school informed her guardian and she was taken to a private health centre.
However, the father of the girl said that he was not in a position to say anything about this incident and would make a statement only after getting details from his daughter. It is a matter of investigation as to what exactly happened in the school which prompted the girl to take such a drastic step.
A Chirkunda police station official, when contacted, said that he had no information about the incident as neither the school nor guardian of the student has informed him.
