Dhanbad, June 14: Unidentified bike-borne criminals on Wednesday morning shot dead coal transporter  cum  SAIL Chasnala colliery employee  Praveen Roy near South Colony  Kata Ghar (coal weighing house) under Patherdih police station, around 20 km away from here.

The police recovered a country-made pistol and four empty cartridges from the incident spot

A police official said the incident occurred around 11 am near the SAIL office when bike-borne criminals sprayed bullets on him. A roadside hotel operator was also injured in the indiscriminate firing of criminals.

An eye witness said Praveen Roy fled into his office and tried to lock the gate but assaulters chased him there and continued firing.

He was immediately admitted to Chasnala-based community health centre (CHC) Jharia where he succumbed to his injury. A doctor said he had received three bullet injuries on his head, eye and body.

Getting information, Patherdih police station officer-in-charge Abhay Kumar and Sindri SDPO Abhishek Kumar reached the spot and began an investigation into the incident.

As the death report of Praveen Roy reached, irate people blocked the Dhanbad-Sindri main road demanding the arrest of the killers.

The police official said CCTV cameras of nearby establishments are being checked to identify the killers.
