Dhanbad, Oct 1: Dhanbad police claimed to have solved the murder mystery of Dhanbad soft drink factory owner Jyoti Ranjan, who was shot dead on the evening of September 29.
Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Sanjiv Kumar on Saturday afternoon told media persons that the elder brother (Ranjay Sharma) of deceased Jyoti Ranjan and his friend Srikant Mishra has been arrested for the murder.
Interestingly, Ranjay Sharma had filed an FIR in Rajganj police station against the unidentified killers of his brother on September 30.
“Ranjay Sharma got his younger brother murdered for grabbing the family’s juice factory. Police have already recovered a pistol, a country-made pistol and magazine used in murder crime”, said SSP.
The SSP said the shooters involved in the crime are yet to be arrested. A team has been constituted to nab them.
Jyoti Ranjan (33) was gunned down in a car at his Sunshine County Colony in Herina under Rajganj police station at 7.30 pm on September 29. He was returning to his colony with his wife and five-year-old son by car from the market. The gate of the colony was closed. As he stopped the car and his wife went to open the gate, the killers shot him.
The SSP said a high-level team of senior officers comprising superintendent of police (rural) Reeshma Ramesan, deputy superintendent of police Nisha Murmu and officer-in-charge of Rajganj and Topchanchi police station Santosh Kumar and Jayram Prasad respectively was constituted to solve the murder mystery.
Official sources said police arrested Ranjay Sharma at Burning Ghat yesterday. In the interrogation, he confessed to having committed the crime for the factory of his younger brother. On his revelation, police arrested his friend Srikant Mishra from Tetulmari at night.
In course of the investigation, when the police team sought the mobile phone of the victim’s family members for call details, Ranjay Sharma refused to give which increased their suspicion of him.
